More and more I am getting people who want RL buildings replicated in SL. They give the floor plans images and the reproduction begins. I for one have found a nice place in SL doing RL replication. It should continue for quite some time…
Everyone seems to be so prim conscience. Of course I know the reason to be, but when does “cheapness” trump quality. Lets face it, prims are like building costs of a real world design. In SL we buy enough land to give us something to work with. The less land, the less prims available. But why fill it with low-prim architecture that is mostly texture?
The bottom line is that maybe land shouldn’t be filled from border to border, instead think smaller. The more quality, the more your design will topple its surroundings.. no matter how big the neighbors are. I leave you with a quote from Louis Kahn (my favorite architect)
“A great building must begin with the unmeasurable, must go through measurable means when it is being designed and in the end must be unmeasurable.”
Life Update
Published January 31, 2008 Architecture , SLSA , Second Life , Ted Mikulski Leave a CommentHi all,
I know I haven’t posted for some time. I’ve been extremely busy… I just started teaching at Tunxis C0mmunity College (2 courses in art appreciation). I believe this also makes me the youngest professor at an accredited school in Connecticut.
I have also been working hard on an Oncology clinic in SL. Quite a big build, but has been fun none-the-less.
I am still working for V3 Group, and I’m coming up on 6 months of employment there. It has been alot of fun and I have learned a great deal. We’re always looking for clients so if you know of anyone looking to get into the SL world, check out www.thev3group.com.
I will check back soon. I’ve also been painting quite a bit, I’ll post them shortly.

SLSA Shifts and I enter SLExchange

Well, it has been a while since I posted here. As you can probably already realize, the original SLSA is no more. I simply cannot organize a proper school with limited funds and limited time.
The good news is that I am now teaching classes 1v1 and can better express design on a personal level. Let me know if you are interested. My current student is Hugo Plessis, but I am more than willing to take on multiple students.
In the meantime, I have decided to post some of my personal designs up on SLExchange. I am not sure if there is any monetary gain from this, but alot of the experimental designs I do go un-seen anyways. SLExchange will be a good way to keep a record of my work.
You can view my items on SLExchange here. I only have furniture up right now, but I’m hoping to have my entire line of custom work up there by the end of the week!
Gehry Build Potential Auction
Published November 4, 2007 Architecture , SLSA , Second Life , Ted Mikulski 1 Commenti was thinking that after this Gehry-Inspired work is completed that I may attempt to do something similar to a RL auction. It has alot of potential, the problem is trying to find individuals with enough love for architecture and enough space to buy it.
The work is truly one of a kind so it needs to find a home where it will be appreciated. The work will end up being about 4,500 prims and is the FIRST Gehry-Inspired work in SL.
If you are interested in seeing it, or if you are interested in talking about a potential building auction, IM me in-world.

Gehry Inspired
Published October 26, 2007 Architecture , SLSA , Second Life , Ted Mikulski Leave a CommentThe SLSA location has changed a great deal lately. I have become tired of the original build and have opted for something a bit more challenging. I have begun work on a Gehry-Inspired building in SL. The build is not a replica of Gehry’s work but it will be the first of its kind in SL.
There is plenty to work out amongst the facade and structure but it is moving along.
Visit Here
So I was just in a conference with a very high profile level of speakers and they were speaking about avatar sustainability. In other words, what will actually bring back avatars to a space after they have seen it? People and change. Change is the big one… When you visit a website and pretty much cover its ground, why go back and keep visiting it if it never changes? Sites like youtube, facebook, ebaumsworlds, forum sites, they work because the content continues to draw people in everyday.
So it occurs to me that perhaps I can draw that back into the architectural environment in SL. Since education is presently taking a backseat to other advancements, perhaps the SLSA can run a program of architecture/per week. Perhaps the best designers in SL can be given a space to build on. Each designer gets a chance to display their work or architecture and use it in whatever fashion they wish. Therefore, the space holds some advertising/economical weight as well as design. I will expand on this later…
